Exhibit Woodworker/Sculptor

Full-Time

We are seeking to hire a Full-time Exhibit Woodworker/Sculptor to use a blend of construction and artistic skills to bring sculptural and structural elements from raw materials to finished product. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, hard working, familiar with a broad range of sculptural and millwork processes, materials, and applications, and knows when to ask questions.

Job Type: Full-time, Hourly

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour, based on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be able to read and manufacture from shop drawings with minimal supervision and apply a working knowledge of the methods, equipment, materials, and tools to fabricate and install highly complex, artisan quality exhibits for the museum and exhibition industry.
  • Assemble display parts generated and milled on CNC machine
  • Assist in wrapping, packing, loading, and unloading material deliveries and/or elements for installation
  • Assist in installation of fabricated elements
  • Perform general maintenance on tools and equipment
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, maintaining OSHA compliance through work practice

 Knowledge and Skill

  • Attention to detail is critical
  • Familiarity with a variety of materials: hardwoods, sheet goods, veneers, laminates, adhesives, and finishes
  • Extensive knowledge of stationary and hand-held power tools including table saws, drill press, routers, typical rotary blade/bit tools, and nail guns

 Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or artistic practice preferred
  • 1 year of experience in scenic/themed environments or related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to follow directions and adhere to quality standards
  • Reliable transportation to shop and installation sites
  • When necessary, a willingness to work longer days, nights, or weekends to meet project deadlines

Site Production Lead

Full-Time

Houston, TX

We are seeking to hire a Full-time Site Production Lead to lead a team of fabricators, delegate tasks, adhere to a schedule, and creatively solve problems that arise on site. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in construction with an eye for fine details. They will be able to successfully and inclusively lead a team with a wide range of skills. This position reports directly to the Director of Installation.

Job Type: Full-time, Hourly

Pay: $27.00 - $32.00 per hour, depending on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete a variety of tasks as needed including but not limited to: installing prefabricated sculptural or structural components, wood and metal framing, painting, woodworking, low voltage electrical, technology integration
  • Interpret plans/instructions from the Director of Installation and Project Manager to perform the tasks correctly.
  • Delegate tasks to fabricators using clear and detailed communication.
  • Creatively solve problems that arise on site.
  • Demonstrate reverence for delicate objects while working with and around them.
  • Encourage and participate in a “just ask if you don’t know” approach to problem prevention.
  • Perform all tasks with a safety-first mentality.

Job Requirements

  • Experience installing unique items in a variety of situations: on walls, hanging overhead, and into concrete.
  • Metal and wood fabrication experience

Shop Operations Manager

Full-Time

We are seeking to hire a Full-time Shop Operations Manager to orchestrate a variety of aspects of our fabrication facility and production process. The ideal candidate will have previous experience managing a fabrication shop, have the ability to effectively juggle a large array of tasks across multiple timelines, and possess basic fabrication skills. This position reports to the Director of the Project Management Office while directly supervises the Facilities Team.

Job Type: Full-Time, Salary Exempt

Pay: $48,000 - $64,000 per year, based on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Building Maintenance
  • Supervise all aspects related to the functionality of the building and coordinate the necessary repairs, including electricity, water, HVAC, and roof leaks.
  • Communicate with the Property Manager and contractors to ensure necessary maintenance is performed.
Inventory & Maintenance
  • Oversee the management of tool inventory & tool crib.
  • Oversee the management of consumable inventory (fasteners, adhesives, abrasives, sheet goods, etc.).
  • Coordinate maintenance of all tools, including large shop equipment (lathe, mill, CNC, table saw, Kuka robot arm, etc.).
  • Oversee the maintenance of company vehicles and forklifts including cleanliness, inspections, and/or registrations. 
Health & Safety Protocols
  • Maintain a safe work environment free of hazards and ensure first aid stations are well-stocked & current.
  • Inform and enforce safety policies and procedures.
  • Hold safety meetings as outlined in the safety manual and perform random safety checks.
Incoming/Outgoing Product Logistics
  • Ensure incoming deliveries are safely received, accurately labeled, and stored or distributed in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the management of daily pick-ups and deliveries with driver(s).
  • Ensure that outgoing items are artfully wrapped, packed, loaded, and secured for transport.
Facilities Team Management
  • Use project management software to organize and delegate task lists for the facilities team.

General Shop Upkeep

Driver/Warehouse Worker

We are seeking a driver/warehouse worker who desires working in a creative environment, supporting the fabrication and installation teams, and learning about our multifaceted construction processes.

Job Type: Full-time, Hourly

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour, based on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently transport a variety of items to/from locations across the Greater Houston area using company vehicles, including sprinter vans, pick-up trucks, flatbead trucks, and box trucks
  • Wrap, pack, load, and unload items
  • Accurately communicate critical information between employees and vendors/subcontractors
  • Receive incoming shipments at shop using a forklift, pallet jack, or by hand
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and inventoried work area for all departments 
  • Perform general construction tasks as well as minor tool maintenance and repair  
  • Assisting other department leads and team members as needed

Knowledge and Skill

  • Strong familiarity with and experience navigating the streets and freeways of Greater Houston

We are seeking to hire a Full-time Industrial Designer to take concepts from a basic sketch to fabrication. The ideal candidate will have advanced Rhino 3D skills, experience with parametric design, and an extensive knowledge of construction materials and processes. This position reports directly to the Director of Operations.

Job Type: Full-Time, Salary Exempt

Pay: $50,000 - $70,000 per year, based on experience

‍Job Responsibilities

  • Develop concepts into buildable objects utilizing real world fabrication strategies.
  • Collaborate with fabricators on build strategies and important fabrication details.
  • Create drawings of finalized concepts to include parts lists, diagrams, and specifications. 
  • Outline and identify specifications such as basic dimensional requirements for each department.
  • Create a detailed plan for the order of operations based on consultation with lead fabricators. 
  • Regularly communicate with fabricators to ensure correct understanding of drawings and to understand the techniques and requirements of each fabrication department.
  • Create files for machine fabrication (CNC, robot arm, 3D printer, etc.).
  • Participate in a team culture in which all team members are willing to assist one another.

Job Requirements

  • Advanced Rhino 3D modeling skills.
  • Familiarity with fabrication processes, materials, and how different materials interact.
  • Experience leading projects from concept through fabrication.
  • Experience creating comprehensive and detailed construction drawings per company standards.
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • Strong organizational, creative problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience working with Grasshopper and writing scripts.
