Aransas National Wildlife Refuge is a permanent exhibit environment centered on coastal ecosystems and the wildlife that inhabits them. The installation translates habitat research and biological study into immersive spatial experiences, allowing visitors to encounter species and landscapes at close range while maintaining scientific accuracy.
Rootlab is providing the fabrication of over 150 unique models for the project, including trees, birds, animals, and scenic environmental elements. Models are produced in-house using a combination of digital sculpting, 3D printing, hand finishing, and detailed hand painting. The scope also includes graphics production and integration within the broader exhibit environment. Each element is developed with attention to biological accuracy, material durability, and close public viewing.
Installation is phased within an active museum setting, requiring coordination between fabrication, delivery, and onsite integration. Large scenic components and individual species models must be positioned precisely within the constructed habitats while accommodating ongoing operations. The work demands careful planning, durability of materials, and consistency of finish across a large number of individually crafted elements.
